The Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH DKI) is preparing several larger Temporary Waste Storage Sites (TPS) to divert waste from the Pesanggrahan River area in the Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery (TPU), South Jakarta, which has been permanently closed. “Other alternatives include directing waste transport directly to large landfills (Perintis, Pluit, Sentiong, Pesing) or to the TB Simatupang Waste Sifting Facility (SSTBS),” said the Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, when met at the Tanah Kusir TPU in Jakarta on Friday. Asep explained that the Tanah Kusir TPU area serves as a temporary waste location before it is taken to TB Simatupang, as mini-dump trucks can easily enter and exit the site. According to him, the TB Simatupang Waste Sifting Facility is located quite far away, raising concerns that waste processing mobility could be hindered. In the process, the Tanah Kusir TPU emplacement holds waste from water bodies and tree pruning carried out by the DKI Jakarta Parks and City Forest Service. “Once again, we are striving to maintain environmental preservation, including rivers. So, it is indeed to accelerate waste handling services in water bodies,” he stated. Therefore, the DKI Environmental Agency is working to relocate waste emplacements from riverbanks to land locations such as Temporary Waste Storage Sites (TPS). As is known, the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency has permanently closed the temporary waste point (emplacement) along the Pesanggrahan River in Tanah Kusir TPU, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, which has been operating since 2014. The emplacement’s function is as a temporary placement site for waste originating from water bodies, not household waste. The emplacement accommodates water body waste from Pesanggrahan, Kebayoran Baru, and Kebayoran Lama. The DKI Environmental Agency has deployed alert officers, six waste trucks (mini-dumps), and one excavator during the waste relocation process, with the waste weighing approximately six tonnes in a 12 cubic metre location. Thus, the DKI Environmental Agency ensures there is no waste dumping activity into the Pesanggrahan River in the Tanah Kusir TPU area, South Jakarta, as seen in a viral video on the social media platform Threads.
