DKI to Integrate MRT and KRL Routes Across Kota Tua Area
The Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) will integrate the mass transportation routes of MRT Jakarta and the Electric Rail Train/Commuter Line that pass through the Kota Tua area. “There will be, in addition to the MRT, the KRL that uses electricity. Yesterday, when I met with the Director of KAI, we discussed it, and the President has given directions. Hopefully, it can be completed this year, roughly the old route but made electric,” said Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung at City Hall on Thursday. Pramono explained that the electric KRL route will span approximately 16 km in the initial phase and 28 km in the subsequent phase. Pramono is confident that the face of Kota Tua will change if transportation in the area is well integrated. Moreover, the MRT project with a route extending to Kota Tua is scheduled to be completed in 2029. Therefore, Pemprov DKI Jakarta is preparing for this transportation integration. Previously, Pemprov DKI Jakarta began revitalising the Kota Tua area to restore Jakarta’s identity while strengthening its position as a global city rooted in history and culture. The revitalisation plan was discussed at the “Intimate Dialogue Kota Tua Update” event with the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and their teams. “Here, we are giving assurance that Pemprov DKI is serious about developing Kota Tua. We already have a Kota Tua revitalisation team, and God willing, at the right time, I myself, as the person in charge, will office in Kota Tua,” said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta and Chairman of the Kota Tua Revitalisation and Arrangement Team, Rano Karno. Furthermore, Rano explained that in the revitalisation process, Kota Tua will be divided into three zones: core zone, development zone, and support zone. “What we will focus on first is the core zone. Its area is approximately, from the total Kota Tua of nearly 363 hectares, but the core zone is only about 80 hectares. But the core zone also includes what is called the Maritime Museum as the core zone. Then, Alun-alun Fatahillah,” Rano clarified. In addition, the Jakarta Government is prioritising the development of parking areas and the placement of locations for street vendors (PKL) in the Kota Tua revitalisation process. According to Rano, both facilities are important so that the atmosphere in Kota Tua appears neat and does not disturb the lives of the surrounding community.
