Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has officially begun the revitalisation of Pasar Gardu Asem and the construction of Pasar Kramat Jaya in North Jakarta on Monday, marked by the laying of the first stones or groundbreaking for both markets. Pasar Kramat Jaya is a new market development expected to benefit the community, particularly in North Jakarta. “In Kramat Jaya, 2,600 square metres will be built with several kiosks and hopefully it will open up social, economic, and cultural spaces in Kramat Jaya,” explained Pramono in his speech at Pasar Gardu Asem, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Monday. He wants to improve the existing markets in the capital. Not only in terms of layout and cleanliness, he also encourages sales transactions in markets to be conducted digitally. If this is done, continued Pramono, markets in Jakarta could become role models for other regions. “If that can be done, I am confident this will become a role model. A good example of cooperation between local government, regional-owned enterprises, and the community to organise the economy at the grassroots level,” he said. On the same occasion, Pasar Jaya President Director Agus Himawan explained that both markets will be equipped with facilities including a mushola, public toilets and disability toilets, PAM water network, genset room, lactation room, car and motorbike parking area, hydrants, solar panels, and CCTV facilities. In addition, there will also be a temporary waste disposal site (TPS). Specifically for Pasar Kramat Jaya, it will be equipped with sports facilities. Although the facilities provided are quite complete, Agus emphasised that this market development will still maintain the values of local wisdom in traditional markets. “This development is funded using Regional Capital Participation Funds (PMD). For Pasar Kramat Jaya, the source is from PMD 2016 amounting to Rp10.2 billion. Then for Pasar Gardu Asem, PMD 2017 amounting to Rp10.6 billion,” revealed Agus.
