Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has dispatched hundreds of motorcycles belonging to mudik travellers to five cities across Java as part of the Free Mudik 2026 Programme at Pulo Gadung Terminal, East Jakarta.

A total of 388 motorcycles have been despatched to various destinations across Java using trailer trucks to provide a safer homecoming journey for residents, said Ujang Hermawan, Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub), at Pulo Gadung Terminal, East Jakarta, on Monday.

Under this programme, the motorcycles are being transported using 15 trailer trucks to five destination cities: Solo, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Wonogiri and Kebumen.

Meanwhile, the vehicle owners will undertake their free mudik journey using buses scheduled to depart from the Silang Monas area in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (17 March).

Ujang stated that this motorcycle transportation programme is part of the annual Free Mudik Programme organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ahead of Idul Fitri celebrations.

“This is to provide a sense of security and comfort and to reduce the risk of traffic accidents for mudik travellers who typically use motorcycles for long-distance journeys,” he said.

Ujang explained that by being transported using trailer trucks, the motorcycles can still be used once travellers have reached their home villages. The vehicles can subsequently be utilised for family visits and reunions during the Lebaran holiday period.

Ujang also noted that the number of motorcycles participating in this programme has increased compared to the previous year.

“This demonstrates that public enthusiasm for participating in the free mudik programme organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is growing increasingly high,” said Ujang.

Ujang added that for the return journey, all motorcycles are planned to be despatched back from destination cities to Jakarta on 25 March. The motorcycles will be transported using trailer trucks and centralised at Pulo Gadung Terminal.

Kusmanto, Deputy Mayor of East Jakarta, expressed appreciation to the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency for organising the free mudik programme for residents.

“This programme can reduce traffic accident rates during both the outbound and return mudik periods for motorcycle riders,” said Kusmanto.

Kusmanto also thanked DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo and Vice Governor Rano Karno for their support in implementing the programme.

Kusmanto observed that public awareness of vehicle safety has been increasing. This is evident from the growing number of residents choosing to participate in the free mudik programme rather than undertaking long-distance motorcycle travel directly.

“Praise be to God, the public is now becoming increasingly aware of safety. The indication is that residents are no longer travelling home using motorcycles directly, but rather participating in the free mudik programme from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government,” he said.

In this way, they can return to Jakarta in safe condition after the Lebaran holiday ends.

The Free Mudik Programme organised by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is one of the regional government’s efforts to provide safe transportation services whilst reducing potential traffic congestion and accidents on roads during the Lebaran mudik period.

The motorcycle dispatch was conducted by Ujang Hermawan, Deputy Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, alongside Kusmanto, Deputy Mayor of East Jakarta. The dispatch ceremony was marked by a flag-off by both officials and related officials.
