Amidst escalating conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran that threatens to destabilise global commodity prices, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has ensured that supplies of essential foodstuffs for Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2026 remain secure.

“Based on forecasts of demand and food availability, all strategic commodities in Jakarta are in sufficient supply with adequate reserves amidst the intensifying US-Israel-Iran conflict,” said Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, head of the DKI Jakarta Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, Small and Medium Enterprises Agency, on Sunday (1 March).

Elisabeth affirmed that demand projections have been calculated in detail for the Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr period. Consumption increases annually, notably for chicken eggs (up approximately 7.5%), followed by beef/buffalo and garlic (approximately 3.5%).

On the supply side, rice stocks exceed 100,000 tonnes, well above the projected requirement of approximately 68,000 tonnes. Chicken and beef also possess reserves multiple times the monthly requirement. Sugar and cooking oil are available in quantities reaching tens of thousands of tonnes.

Entering the Eid al-Fitr period in March, consumption increases are projected to be higher. Chicken eggs are estimated to rise more than 17%, whilst chicken meat and shallots are expected to increase above 10%.

“Nevertheless, rice stocks exceed 136,000 tonnes, far surpassing the projected requirement of approximately 78,000 tonnes. Protein commodities, sugar, cooking oil, and horticultural products also maintain adequate buffer stocks,” she stated.

The DKI Provincial Government has prepared anticipatory measures to mitigate potential price volatility resulting from global dynamics. Coordination has been strengthened with food state-owned enterprises, major distributors, merchant associations, and the central government to ensure smooth daily distribution in both traditional markets and modern retail outlets.

Price monitoring will also be intensified. Should unjustified price increases be detected, intervention will be implemented through market operations, cheap food bazaars, and optimisation of supplies from state-owned enterprises.

“We also urge the public to remain calm and avoid panic buying. Supplies through Eid al-Fitr are assured to be secure,” Elisabeth firmly stated.

She assured that the provincial government’s commitment is clear: to maintain supply and price stability so that residents can observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid al-Fitr peacefully, without concerns over price surges resulting from global volatility.
