DKI Provincial Government: Ban on Sweeping and Sahur on the Road During Ramadan Effective from Start of Fasting
Jakarta - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has prohibited sweeping raids on restaurants and sahur on the road (SOTR) activities during the month of Ramadan. The ban will take effect from the beginning of the fasting period.
“This policy was announced since his declaration on 14 February 2026, ahead of the transition from Chinese New Year celebrations to Ramadan, and will be fully enforced once the fasting month begins,” said the Governor of Jakarta’s Special Staff member, Chico Hakim, when contacted on Sunday (15/2/2026).
Chico stated that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would coordinate with the police within the next one to two days. He said that monitoring and patrols would be conducted routinely at several vulnerable points.
“Within the next one to two days, coordination will be carried out with the police and other relevant agencies. Enforcement and monitoring will involve routine joint patrols at vulnerable points, particularly during the evenings leading up to and during sahur,” he said.
He also confirmed that the patrols would be conducted to prevent potential security disturbances and brawls.
“This involves Satpol PP as enforcers of regional regulations and public order within the Provincial Government’s jurisdiction, as well as the police for security aspects and law enforcement related to public order disturbances or potential brawls,” he said.
Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung had firmly stated that he would not permit civil society organisations (ormas) to conduct sweeping raids on restaurants during Ramadan. He urged all parties to maintain a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere upon entering the fasting month.
Pramono made the statement after inaugurating the Kerapatan Gereja Protestan Minahasa (KGPM) church building in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (14/2).
According to him, welcoming Ramadan must be done with full peacefulness, not with actions that cause unrest.
“I want to affirm that welcoming Ramadan must be full of peace and harmony,” said Pramono in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (14/2).
The DKI Provincial Government, he said, had prepared various measures to ensure the period of worship proceeds in an orderly manner. When asked about the potential for sweeping raids on eateries by civil society organisations, Pramono firmly stated the prohibition.
“As governor, I am responsible for this and I do not permit any sweeping raids,” he asserted.
In addition, he also banned sahur on the road (SOTR) activities, which have the potential to create security vulnerabilities and brawls.
“Essentially, anything that creates vulnerability or disorder, I will not permit. But if it brings comfort, I will allow it,” said Pramono.
