Jakarta — The Jakarta Provincial Government has activated its Rorotan RDF (Refuse-Derived Fuel) Plant to help process Jakarta’s waste and maintain the stability of the waste management system following a collapse at the Bantargebang final disposal site (TPST).

Asep Kuswanto, Head of Jakarta’s Environmental Affairs Agency, stated on Tuesday that the measure aims to ensure waste management services continue operating optimally whilst parts of the Bantargebang site remain under remediation following the collapse.

The Rorotan RDF facility began operations on Tuesday with an initial capacity of approximately 300 tonnes per day, with plans to increase capacity gradually to 750 tonnes per day this week. “It will then be increased to 1,000 tonnes per day,” Asep said.

Currently, waste disposal services at Bantargebang continue through Zone 1, Zone 2, and Zone 5 with a combined capacity of around 4,000 tonnes per day. However, Zone 4 remains under remediation following the collapse. Once cleanup work is completed, this zone will resume operations with an additional capacity of approximately 1,500 tonnes per day.

In addition to the Rorotan RDF Plant, waste processing also continues at the Bantargebang RDF Plant, which handles around 800 tonnes per day, and at the Merah Putih waste-to-energy facility (PLTSa), which processes approximately 100 tonnes per day.

Through this arrangement, the total waste that can be managed by the end of this week is estimated to reach approximately 6,700 to 7,150 tonnes per day.

“Through various handling measures currently underway, we hope that operations at the Bantargebang site can return to normal within one week,” Asep said.
