Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Service (Dukcapil) is carrying out monitoring and doorstep services in Pulau Sabira, Thousand Islands, to ensure that all residents of this outermost island have accurate and complete population documents.

“Our presence among the residents of Pulau Sabira is for monitoring and socialisation of the importance of understanding population administration, particularly in the Thousand Islands including Pulau Sabira,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Dukcapil Service, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, in Jakarta on Monday.

Pulau Sabira is an island with an area of about 8.82 hectares, consisting of one neighbourhood unit and four neighbourhood associations with a population of 642 people.

The residents of this island are dominated by migrants of Bugis Bone descent since 1975. In addition, the island features the Noord Wachter (North Watcher) Lighthouse, standing 48.5 metres tall with 210 steps, an icon dating back to the Dutch colonial era in 1869.

Pulau Sabira is also known as a producer of salted mackerel scad due to its deep and very clear waters.

The island, nicknamed “North Guard,” directly borders the Lampung Sea.

He stated that education on the importance of population administration and its database needs to be conveyed to the community starting from school benches, as possession of population identity is the basis for other services.

He mentioned that the Thousand Islands Administrative District Dukcapil Sub-Service collaborates with the Education Service and the Provincial DKI Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Service in implementing the Guest Teacher Dukcapil programme.

This programme aims to provide basic knowledge (junior high school level) on the importance of population identity and the benefits of orderly population administration.

“In addition to Pulau Sabira, Pulau Panggang, Pulau Kelapa, and Pulau Pramuka are also sites for monitoring visits,” he said.

He added that population data serves as the basis for the government in formulating policies or data-driven policies.

In accordance with the mandate of Law No. 2/2006 on Population Administration and its amendment Law No. 24/2013, residents are obliged to report population events (moves/arrivals) and important events (births, deaths, marriages) to the Dukcapil Service according to their domicile, with the aim of providing legal status recognition and accurate data.

“We are ensuring that no more Thousand Islands residents lack population identity, including population documents and other Dukcapil products,” he said.

Previously, the Head of the Thousand Islands Dukcapil Sub-Service, Raditya Wirawan, explained that his team is providing various population administration services through doorstep services to Pulau Sabira.

These include recording and printing of electronic ID cards, Child Identity Cards (KIA), Family Cards (KK), civil registry certificates, and activation of Digital Population Identity (IKD).

“Today, we are present in Pulau Sabira to ensure residents receive the same population administration service rights as those in the city centre,” he said.

He added that, besides on-site services, officers are also conducting door-to-door activation of IKD to residents’ homes.
