DKI Partners with UI to Address Mussel Waste in Cilincing Coastal Area
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has partnered with the University of Indonesia (UI) to process mussel waste in the Cilincing coastal area, North Jakarta.
DKI Jakarta’s Assistant for Economy and Finance, Suharini Eliawati, stated that the waste will be utilised to create various useful products, ranging from paving blocks to souvenirs.
“Regarding mussel waste, we have already collaborated with UI. Last year, it was turned into paving blocks; for this year, it will be used for infrastructure needs, such as for toilet facilities, and also for souvenirs,” explained Elli in the Central Jakarta area on Wednesday.
Elli noted that this step is taken as a solution to the mussel waste problem that once went viral and piled up in the coastal region.
In addition to reducing environmental pollution, the processing of this waste is expected to provide economic added value.
Furthermore, this programme is part of the DKI Provincial Government’s efforts to handle coastal waste issues sustainably.
Mussel waste, previously considered worthless, is now processed into functional products that also have economic value.
