The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the cleanup of waste piles in the Muara Angke area, North Jakarta, to be completed on Saturday (6/6). Afan Adriansyah Idris, Assistant for Development and Environment of the DKI Jakarta Regional Secretariat, stated that the cleanup process, which has been underway since Wednesday (3/6) until Friday (5/6), has reached 85 to 90 per cent completion. “The cleanup is continuing to be accelerated so that all the waste piles in Muara Angke can be dealt with by this weekend,” Afan said in Jakarta on Friday. The waste handling is being carried out by the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency by deploying personnel, heavy equipment, and waste transport fleets. During the cleanup process, the DKI Provincial Government deployed 100 field officers, two amphibious excavators, and three waste transport boats. After the cleanup is complete, the DKI Environment Agency will conduct regular monitoring and inspections to prevent waste from accumulating again. In addition to the cleanup, the DKI Provincial Government is also strengthening waste management from upstream to downstream to reduce the volume of waste entering water bodies. Afan appealed to the public not to dispose of waste into drains, rivers, reservoirs, lakes, retention basins, or other water bodies, as it can pollute the environment and increase the risk of flooding. “Maintaining environmental cleanliness is a shared responsibility. We invite the entire community to be more concerned about waste management so that the environment remains clean, healthy, and free from various negative impacts, including flooding,” he said.
