Jakarta — Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo has stated that his administration has implemented directives from the central government, particularly regarding zone 4A at the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).

Previously, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq had called on DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to halt open dumping practices at the TPST Bantargebang facility in Bekasi, West Java.

“For zone 4, what was instructed by the Environment Minister has already been implemented,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.

He explained that open dumping practices in zone 4A have been discontinued. Meanwhile, other zones, namely 2 and 3, continue to operate to accommodate waste from Jakarta.

In addition, DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing plans to construct a waste-to-energy power plant (PLTSa) in the Bantargebang area. The project is estimated to require approximately 8 to 10 hectares of land.

“Bantargebang, among other things, we will decide to use for a waste-to-energy power plant that will operate there, and for that approximately 8 to 10 hectares of land will be required,” Pramono explained.

“This incident should not have occurred had waste management been carried out in accordance with regulations. Bantargebang TPST must serve as a lesson for all of us to urgently reform, for the sake of human life and environmental preservation,” said Hanif.

He stated that the waste landslide on Sunday, 8 March, which resulted in four deaths, was evidence of systemic failure in Jakarta’s waste management and should no longer be tolerated.

Prior to this recent incident, a landslide also occurred at TPST Bantargebang in 2003, followed by the collapse of zone 3 in 2006, which claimed lives and buried dozens of waste pickers.

Additionally, in January 2026, a platform at TPST Bantargebang collapsed, dragging three waste trucks into the riverbed, followed by another collapse of a waste mound in March 2026.
