A member of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Ida Mahmuda, has urged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to take firm action and close rubbish disposal sites (TPS) that disrupt aesthetics and comfort at various points in the Capital. Ida suggested that the closure of such TPS should be accompanied by the optimisation of existing large-capacity waste management facilities. “Such TPS can be addressed through the optimisation of large-capacity waste management facilities at several points as well,” said Ida in Jakarta on Friday (27/3). The legislative body expressed full support if the Environmental Agency (LH) relocates TPS deemed to disturb residents or negatively impact the surrounding environment. Specifically, Ida gave appreciation for the Environmental Agency’s step to close the rubbish disposal site (emplacement) in the TPU Tanah Kusir area, South Jakarta. According to her, this policy can serve as an important momentum to enhance equipment capacity at the TB Simatupang segment waste screen. “The Environmental Agency’s step to close the rubbish ‘emplacement’ at TPU Tanah Kusir, South Jakarta, deserves appreciation because that TPS disrupts aesthetics and comfort,” she stated. Regarding the challenge of limited government-owned land, Ida encouraged the DKI Provincial Government to explore cooperation with private parties in building modern waste processing facilities, such as Intermediate Treatment Facilities (ITF), especially in the West Jakarta area. “If there are private parties, the DKI Regional Government should be able to collaborate to build it, whether through a rental system or cooperation system,” Ida remarked. Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, had announced the permanent closure of the emplacement at Kali Pesanggrahan, TPU Tanah Kusir, which had been operating since 2014. This closure is hoped to demonstrate the government’s commitment to preserving rivers and the environment. “So, as of today, we are closing the ‘emplacement’ at TPU Tanah Kusir and hope it becomes our commitment to continue preserving the environment,” Asep emphasised. On the same occasion, Asep also conveyed an apology regarding a viral social media video showing a rubbish truck (mini dump) dumping its load into a river. He assured that internal coordination would be tightened to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
