DKI DPRD Special Committee Reveals Jakarta's Waste Volume Reaches 7,000 Tonnes Per Day
The Chairman of the Special Committee (Pansus) on Waste Management of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Judistira Hermawan, has highlighted the high volume of waste in the capital, which reaches 7,000 tonnes per day. According to him, reliance on the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) as the final disposal location cannot be sustained without accompanying innovations in waste processing.
“With such a large waste volume (7,000 tonnes), the pressure on Bantargebang is increasing. Serious steps are needed, starting from reduction at the source, increased recycling, to the construction of modern processing facilities,” Judistira told reporters on Wednesday (8/4/2026).
Judistira revealed that his side will focus on compiling concrete recommendations to the Governor of DKI Jakarta to improve the waste management system, which is deemed not yet optimal. He assessed that waste handling in Jakarta is increasingly urgent, thus requiring efforts and acceleration in addressing it.
“We will provide constructive recommendations on waste management to the Governor, Mr Pram,” he said.
The Chairman of the Golkar Faction of the Jakarta DPRD targeted 2030 for Jakarta to be free from waste problems. He stated that Bantargebang can no longer continuously receive waste because it is already overloaded.
“Many hopes have been expressed by the public. Our success through this pansus, at least by 2030, Jakarta will be clean from waste. Then Bantargebang, which today is already overloaded, certainly cannot continue to receive waste from us,” he explained.
He emphasised that the pansus will discuss all aspects that need improvement in the waste management system. Later, the discussion will involve various related parties.
“Through the pansus, we will discuss everything that indeed needs our attention so that its management is even better. Today we just transport it, in the future there must be a system change,” he said.
Judistira also emphasised the importance of synergy between the DPRD and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government in resolving the waste issue. He does not want mutual blame.
“We are not looking for faults in other parties, but together the DKI Jakarta DPRD and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government under the leadership of Governor Pramono Anung will provide constructive recommendations so that this waste problem can be resolved well,” he clarified.
“This is not just about cleanliness, but about the city’s sustainability. We want to ensure Jakarta has a strong, integrated waste management system that no longer fully depends on Bantargebang,” he concluded.
Judistira has been appointed as the Chairman of the Pansus on Waste Management formed by the Jakarta DPRD. The appointment took place today in the DPRD Jakarta Commission room and was led by the Deputy Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Wibi Andrino.
The selection of the pansus leadership was conducted through a consensus deliberation mechanism. Meanwhile, Husein was elected as the Deputy Chairman of the Pansus on Waste Management.
The formation of this pansus is expected to accelerate the formulation of strategic and comprehensive policies in waste handling, while supporting efforts to realise Jakarta as a cleaner and healthier city.
Judistira stated that the Pansus will push for policies that not only solve short-term problems but also provide long-term solutions to the waste crisis in the capital.
