DKI DPRD Requests Sanctions for Private Free Schools Imposing Fees
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD has requested that the DKI Education Office immediately follow up and impose administrative sanctions if any private school parties burden students with fee collections under the private free school programme.
“If from the start there was already an MoU, there was already an agreement that free schools must not collect fees,” said Chairman of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Muhammad Subki, in Jakarta on Wednesday.
According to him, there are indications of fee collections in the implementation of the Private Free School Programme.
Such fee collections are deemed to violate regulations and add to the burden on students’ parents.
Subki stated that private schools have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) regarding the prohibition of additional collections, so they must fully commit to providing more optimal educational services.
“So there should be no more collections, because this programme is actually good,” he said.
The budget for the programme, Subki said, is sufficient to meet school needs, for example, funding for teacher training to libraries.
Nevertheless, Subki appreciated the Education Office’s expansion of the Private Free School Programme’s reach in June 2026. The target is to increase from 40 schools to 103 schools.
Subki hopes that budget efficiency policies will not impact the Private Free School Programme in Jakarta. Because the programme is a significant step in helping the community.
“I hope the efficiency that occurs does not disrupt the private free school programme,” he added.
