DKI DPRD Interrupts Pramono on Free Schools, Demands Targeted Aid for the Poor
JAKARTA – Several members of the DKI Jakarta DPRD delivered interruptions to DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung regarding the free school programme during the plenary meeting discussing the 2025 Accountability Report at the DPRD DKI Building on Thursday (30/4/2026).
A DPRD DKI member from the PDI-P Faction, Agustina Hermanto or Tina Toon, appreciated the increase in the number of free private schools from 40 in 2023 to 103 this year.
Nevertheless, she reminded that the programme should truly be on target, especially for underprivileged communities.
She also proposed that the number of free private schools continue to be increased.
“Hopefully, if it’s up to us, we request it to increase to 200, Sir, but hopefully it goes smoothly and truly according to the mechanism,” said Tina.
In agreement, the Chair of Commission E of DPRD DKI from the PKS Faction, Subki, encouraged the free school programme to also target madrasah-based schools under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
According to him, the free school policy should also cover madrasah students who contribute equally through taxes.
“Don’t let this discrimination continue for long. Hopefully Jakarta’s finances can improve, with free private madrasahs,” he said.
Meanwhile, a DPRD DKI member from the PAN Faction, Lukmanul Hakim, highlighted the still high number of school dropouts in Jakarta.
“Interruption to the Governor, there are still many children dropping out of school in Jakarta. The global city is still far from the dream if there are still many (children) dropping out. I hope the Governor’s team truly looks into, Sir, in determining the points for free schools,” he said.
On the other hand, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government through the Education Office has prepared 103 free private schools spread across five administrative regions.
The Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Nahdiana, explained that 40 schools had previously implemented the programme until the end of the academic year.
To support the programme, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated a budget of Rp 253.6 billion.
“The budget allocated for 103 private schools is Rp 253,625,139,600,” said Nahdiana.
