Jakarta — The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has mobilised transportation personnel from the Transportation Agency to manage traffic flow at tourist destinations in the capital during the Lebaran exodus and holiday period in 2026.

“Not everyone travels home; some visit tourist attractions. Personnel are stationed to ensure safety during the exodus and whilst people are in Jakarta,” said Listiyaning Handayani, Head of the Data and Information Centre for Transportation at the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, during a podcast discussion on “Safe Mudik Towards Victory” in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Beyond traffic management at tourist sites, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also stationed personnel at terminals and optimised surveillance cameras to monitor traffic flow.

“We have placed personnel at congestion-prone locations. We have also prepared positions at terminals, where CCTV cameras are installed to monitor the travellers and our field personnel,” Listiyaning said.

The Transportation Agency is also coordinating with the military to manage traffic flow during the exodus in Jakarta through mudik (homebound travel) checkpoints along major roads.

During the discussion, she also addressed the Free Mudik Programme, which has entered the data verification stage for prospective participants. The 2026 Free Mudik Programme will depart toward 20 cities on the islands of Java and Sumatra on 17 March from the National Monument area.

The number of registered prospective travellers for the Free Mudik Programme has increased. Consequently, the quota of participants has been expanded from the original 26,440 to 30,774 people.

To accommodate all participants, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has increased the fleet size from the original 661 buses to 709 buses to transport residents to their home villages.

Besides the DKI Provincial Government, the Ministry of Transportation and private entities are also offering free mudik programmes. The public can take advantage of one of these programmes.

“Our system is integrated with the Ministry of Transportation’s system. So it is already separated — if you have already chosen one option, you cannot select both,” she said.
