Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DKI Jakarta, referring to the results of the 2025 Inter-Census Population Survey (Supas), states that Jakarta has entered the population ageing phase, characterised by a proportion of elderly residents at 12.01%. “Almost all regencies/municipalities in DKI Jakarta have experienced population ageing. This condition indicates the need for elderly-friendly government policies,” said the Head of BPS DKI Jakarta, Kadarmanto, in Jakarta on Tuesday. The population ageing phase is marked by a percentage of residents aged 60 and above at 10% or more. Based on regions, except for the Thousand Islands, all administrative city areas in Jakarta currently show an ageing population. The highest percentage is in Central Jakarta at 14.12%, followed by South Jakarta at 12.55%, East Jakarta at 11.70%, West Jakarta at 11.68%, North Jakarta at 11.19%, and the Thousand Islands at 8.6%. “This means that for every 100 working-age residents, they support around 40 non-productive residents,” Kadarmanto explained. This ratio has increased compared to the 2010 Population Census (36.94) and the 2020 Population Census (39.73), along with the increase in the proportion of working-age population (15-64 years). Although increasing, over the 2010-2025 period, the dependency ratio remains below 50, indicating that Jakarta is still in the demographic bonus phase. Meanwhile, by regency/municipality, South Jakarta has the lowest dependency ratio at 39.00, while the Thousand Islands records the highest at 45.81.
