Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Finance Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) collected Rp1.13 trillion in taxes from the digital economy sector in the first month of 2026.

The largest collection stemmed from value-added tax (VAT) on electronic trading systems (PMSE), amounting to Rp1.02 trillion, followed by Rp43.45 billion from cryptocurrency taxes and Rp61.91 billion from financial technology (fintech) or peer-to-peer lending (P2P) taxes.

Meanwhile, no payments were received from the Government Procurement Information System (SIPP) tax during January 2026.

Inge Diana Rismawanti, director of tax education, services and public relations at DJP, stated in a written statement in Jakarta that the realisation of digital economy sector tax revenues reflects the growing contribution of the digital economy to state revenues.

For VAT on PMSE, total deposits since 2020 through January 2026 reached Rp36.69 trillion, submitted by 223 PMSE operators from 242 designated companies. This comprised Rp731.4 billion in 2020, Rp3.9 trillion in 2021, Rp5.51 trillion in 2022, Rp6.76 trillion in 2023, Rp8.44 trillion in 2024, Rp10.32 trillion in 2025, and Rp1.02 trillion in 2026.

In January 2026, DJP revoked data for VAT collector Grammarly and modified data for BetterMe Limited.

For cryptocurrency taxes, total collections reached Rp1.93 trillion from 2022 through January 2026. These comprised Rp246.45 billion in 2022, Rp220.83 billion in 2023, Rp620.4 billion in 2024, Rp796.74 billion in 2025, and Rp43.45 billion in 2026.

Cryptocurrency tax revenues consisted of Rp1.05 trillion from income tax (PPh 22) on sales transactions and Rp875.23 billion from domestic VAT.

For P2P lending, total deposits reached Rp4.47 trillion from 2022 through January 2026, comprising Rp446.39 billion in 2022, Rp1.11 trillion in 2023, Rp1.48 trillion in 2024, Rp1.37 trillion in 2025, and Rp61.91 billion in 2026.

Tax revenues from this sector comprised three types: PPh 23 on loan interest received by domestic taxpayers and permanent establishments totalling Rp1.23 trillion, PPh 26 on loan interest received by foreign taxpayers totalling Rp724.54 billion, and domestic VAT on deposit periods of Rp2.52 trillion.

For SIPP, total collections amounted to Rp4.1 trillion from 2022 through January 2026, comprising Rp402.38 billion in 2022, Rp1.12 trillion in 2023, Rp1.33 trillion in 2024, and Rp1.25 trillion in 2025.

SIPP taxes comprised PPh Article 22 of Rp339.01 billion and VAT of Rp3.76 trillion.

Overall, total deposits from the digital economy sector reached Rp47.18 trillion through 31 January 2026.

The government will continue to strengthen oversight, expand the tax base, and increase compliance among digital business operators through enhanced regulation and utilisation of information technology.
