DJKI: LMKN's Disclosure on Unclaimed Royalties is Now Clear
Jakarta — The Director of Law Enforcement at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DJKI) under the Ministry of Law, Arie Ardian Rishadi, has stated that the transparency issue raised by commissioners of the National Collective Management Body (LMKN) regarding royalties is now sufficiently clear, particularly concerning unclaimed royalties.
“Certainly, I believe the transparency issue regarding management is now very clear. They are more transparent, and notably, this is something that has never been done in such a long time — the LMKN commissioners are now announcing unclaimed royalties, which were previously never publicly disclosed,” Arie said during a plenary meeting of the LMKN in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Arie, who also serves as a supervisory board member of the LMKN, stated that the announcement of unclaimed royalties represents a positive step for the organisation, enabling musicians, creators, and rights holders to learn that their works have royalty amounts available for collection.
“This means all rights holders, whether creators or related rights holders, have the potential to receive their entitlements. And this is being announced to the public. And this is happening now for the first time. This demonstrates a response to the transparency issue regarding royalty distribution,” he explained.
Arie stated that the DJKI will continue monitoring the performance of collective management bodies (LMK) and the LMKN in terms of royalty distribution. He will also propose financial audits within the organisations to ensure the LMKN’s operations and royalty management function properly.
Arie added that members of the collective management bodies representing musicians have also demonstrated good cooperation in jointly complying with royalty payment regulations established by law.
“Admittedly, we cannot solve all these issues quickly at once. We are all in a process that requires time. And I will consistently continue monitoring the activities of the LMK and LMKN. There is no bias,” Arie concluded.
