Djarum certified to ISO 9001

KUDUS, Central Java (JP): Local cigarette maker PT Djarum received on Saturday a certificate of compliance with the ISO 9001 quality system from Moody International Certification Indonesia.

"We are proud to be the first recipient of the ISO 9001 in the clove cigarette category," Djarum's chief operating officer Victor Rachmat Hartono said at the handing over ceremony for the ISO certificate.

He said that the process of adopting the ISO 9001 quality system began in August 1999 with the assistance of Asian Business Consultants.

In April 2000, the company started implementing the ISO 9001 standard in all its business units including the design process, procurement, warehousing, pre-processing, and tobacco processing, Victor said.

The standard has been adopted in cigarette and packaging quality, consistency in flavor, quality, innovation, and service.

Moody International Certification said that there were 113 locations in which Djarum implemented the standard, with more than 53,330 of its 63,400 workers being involved, making it the largest certification process in Asia.

Moody International Certification Indonesia is part of Malaysia's AOQC Moody Sdn. Bhd. certification body.
