DIY PJN Unit States Kewek Bridge Revitalisation Project to Begin in May 2026
The Satuan Kerja Pelaksanaan Jalan Nasional (Satker PJN) for the Special Region of Yogyakarta has detailed the latest progress on the Kewek Bridge revitalisation project in Danurejan, Yogyakarta City. The Satker PJN DIY has outlined the project’s scope.
Pejabat Pembuat Komitmen (PPK) 1.1 of Satker PJN DIY, Ersy Perdhana, stated that the construction work to replace Kewek Bridge, under the oversight of Satker PJN DIY, is still in progress. The target remains unchanged, with the project expected to be completed by the end of this year.
“The current progress involves the selection of providers using E-Purchasing Mini Competition,” Ersy said when contacted on Monday (20/4/2026).
“The planned start of physical work is in May, with a target completion by the end of December,” he added.
Ersy provided a brief overview of the construction work for the Kewek Bridge replacement. It will not only address the physical structure but also improve the approach roads.
“The existing bridge will be demolished, and a new bridge will be built with a girder beam structure, 30 metres long and 16 metres wide, with 11 metres of asphalt and 2.5 x 2 metres for sidewalks,” he explained.
“Then, repairs to the approach roads leading to the bridge and the construction of Dinding Penahan Tanah (retaining walls) made of concrete on the riverbank cliffs,” Ersy added.
Previously reported, the Kewek Bridge revitalisation project was scheduled to begin in April 2026. The plan is to demolish the current bridge and build a new one.
Head of the Yogyakarta City Public Works and Spatial Planning Department (DPUPKP), Umi Akhsanti, explained that the entire project will be carried out by the Ministry of Public Works (PU) as it is fully funded by the APBN.
“Kewek Bridge will be implemented in 2026; it will be demolished and a new bridge built. The Ministry of PU will handle the construction, not us, so it will be built using APBN,” Umi clarified when met in the Kleringan area on Wednesday (10/12/2025).
“In terms of timeline, it will take about nine months for construction. Perhaps around April; January will still involve reviewing the DED, then the tender process, with work starting around April,” she continued.
The project is estimated to cost up to Rp 19 billion as it involves full construction. Although the Ministry will handle the building, Umi stated that the Yogyakarta City Government prepared the Detailed Engineering Design (DED).
The current process involves discussions with the Culture Department for the facade design. Although not a cultural heritage site itself, Umi noted that Kewek Bridge is located within a cultural heritage area, so the Culture Department must be involved in the facade design.
“Therefore, all designs must follow the guidance from the Culture Department. This is currently being processed at the Culture Department. Technically, the model is actually the same as the current concrete bridge,” Umi explained.
“But we are still discussing the facade, as it is in the philosophical axis area; we are waiting for directions from the Culture Department on what the facade should look like,” she added.
