Division of roles for Amri/Nita proves key to Swiss Open semi-final progression
Jakarta — Indonesian mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah have credited effective role division during the deciding game as the key to their victory over fellow countrymen Adnan Maulana and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil at the Swiss Open 2026 quarter-finals.
In the match at St. Jakobshalle in Basel on Friday local time, Amri and Nita were forced through a deciding third game before securing victory with a score of 21-18, 20-22, 21-19.
“In the third game, perhaps it seemed I did not shout or communicate as much as in the first and second games. I was more focused on reassuring myself and allowing Amri to play because he knows what he needs to do,” Nita said in an official statement from the Indonesian Badminton Association (PP PBSI) on Saturday.
“I needed to anticipate their shots more quickly, prepare attacks for Amri, and try to remain calmer until I could eventually find my own playing pattern,” she added.
Nita explained that this tactical adjustment helped them gain confidence, particularly on crucial points as the match approached its conclusion.
“By the end of the third game, we were able to read the pattern of play they would employ, so we were bolder and more aggressive in finishing points to win the match,” she said.
Amri, meanwhile, credited their adaptation to the opponents’ varied playing style and their ability to handle tempo changes effectively. He highlighted that maintaining focus and maximising each player’s individual strengths were critical factors that helped them overcome the pressure during the match.
The victory advances Amri and Nita to the semi-finals, keeping their hopes alive for a maiden BWF World Tour title.
In the semi-final, Amri and Nita are scheduled to face Chinese pair Cheng Xing and Zhang Chi, who previously defeated fellow Indonesian representatives Jafar Hidayatullah and Felisha Alberta Nathaniel Pasaribu with a score of 21-19, 21-17.
