Dismissed workers seek redress

JAKARTA (JP): Seventeen former employees of state-run tin mining company PT Tambang Timah took their dispute with the company to the National Commission on Human Rights.

The group, which was met by commission members Clementino dos Reis Amaral and Nohamad Salim, claimed Monday PT Tambang Timah had failed to pay allowances they were entitled to upon their dismissal several years ago.

They alleged the company had failed to pay health allowances for their families and was tardy in dispensing pension funds, among other grievances.

"There were violations of human rights in the mass dismissal of PT Tambang Timah employees several years ago," they said in a petition submitted to the commission.

The case has been brought to court, and Amral suggested the group should wait for the court ruling.

He promised to look into their complaints, Antara reported. (pan)
