The Ciamis Police Resort quickly responded to the viral allegations of illegal levies at the Cirahong Bridge, a historic structure connecting Ciamis Regency and Tasikmalaya Regency. The enforcement action carried out on Saturday afternoon (04/04/2026) has drawn public attention while reigniting societal interest in this unique bridge over a century old. Led by Ciamis Police Sector Chief Kompol Alan Dahlan along with Intelkam Section Chief AKP Rahmat Komara, the police conducted a direct inspection at the site, involving village government officials and local community representatives. The clarification results confirmed that there is no obligation for road users crossing the Cirahong Bridge to make payments, which had previously been perceived as levies by some members of the public. Nevertheless, to avoid misunderstandings and maintain a conducive situation, all traffic regulation activities by residents and voluntary collections were completely halted starting at 12:00 WIB. Official statement videos from the Heads of Pawindan and Panyingkiran Villages were produced as a form of transparency to the public. This firm step has received appreciation from the community for providing clear information and ensuring a sense of safety when crossing. The levy controversy has prompted many people to recall the existence of the Cirahong Bridge as one of the most unique and historic infrastructures in West Java. Here are some interesting facts about this bridge: Built during the colonial era, the Cirahong Bridge was initially intended as a railway line over the Citanduy River. To this day, its characteristic steel framework from the industrial era remains intact and defines the structure. Its greatest uniqueness lies in its dual function: This design makes the Cirahong Bridge the only active railway-road bridge in the West Java region. The bridge spans 202 metres and is classified as a steel truss bridge. This material was chosen to ensure the bridge’s strength in facing dynamic loads from trains, river water, and local traffic. Above the bridge stretches the railway track connecting Manonjaya Station and Ciamis Station.
