Discipline campaign
Discipline campaign
From Neraca
One of the biggest traffic trouble spots in Jakarta is the UKI intersection in Cawang, East Jakarta.
For many years, bus passengers have hopped on and off intercity buses at this intersection, thus causing immense traffic snarls. Bus drivers preferred to circumvent the jammed Kampung Rambutan bus terminal and the intersection was convenient for both the drivers and the passengers, but a headache for other drivers.
Not surprisingly, one priority of the National Discipline Movement is tackling the inherent problem of the UKI intersection. Bus operators and bus passengers are evidently not happy because to go through Kampung Rambutan means lost time.
I appreciate the efforts of the officials involved in enforcing discipline among road users. It may take one year of sustained enforcement to stop the bedlam. Discipline collapses when the police are no longer on the road.
It is the task of the public transportation authorities to ensure the road to Kampung Rambutan terminal is reasonably free of congestion so intercity buses coming from the Cikampek-Jakarta toll road can easily enter the terminal without passing through the UKI intersection.
