Disaster survivors in Agam receive food aid ahead of Eid celebrations
Residents of Malalak District, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, who survived a hydrometeorology disaster, have received food assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs ahead of Eid celebrations.
The assistance was distributed by officials at the Malalak District Office on Tuesday, comprising food parcels containing two sacks of rice totalling ten kilograms, two tins of sardines at 425 grams each, and one bottle of cooking oil at 400 millilitres.
One resident from Jorong Toboh, Nuraini (54), whose home suffered severe damage, expressed gratitude for the aid she received. She stated she has been unable to work because irrigation systems were cut off by flash flooding, resulting in loss of income.
Nuraini now lives with eleven children and grandchildren, making it difficult to meet daily needs. Her situation is compounded by plans for four family members to return home for Eid celebrations.
Similarly, Yusnidar (72), felt supported by the assistance received ahead of Eid. She also expressed happiness at consistently receiving aid from government agencies, non-governmental organisations, and individuals.
“We are happy to receive aid. Since the disaster occurred, we haven’t been able to work. The farmland is only left with a small amount, just enough for one day,” she said.
The assistance was provided to 192 heads of household affected by the disaster, including those experiencing light, moderate, and severe damage, as well as residents living in disaster-prone zones.
The aid arrived from Agam Regency’s Social Services Department, sourced from the Ministry of Social Affairs, distributed to 192 affected households in Malalak District.
