Disabled Individuals Gain Safe Mudik Access Through BSI's Free Programme
Amid millions preparing to return to their hometowns, hundreds of disabled individuals have finally been given the opportunity to mudik in a safer and more comfortable manner. This year’s free mudik programme by PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) has opened up opportunities for a group that often faces obstacles in long-distance travel. A total of 385 disabled individuals were transported from Jakarta along with 2,261 mudik participants to various cities on Java and Sumatra. They headed to areas such as Cirebon, Yogyakarta, and Surabaya. Behind the annual mudik crowds, accessible transportation for the disabled remains limited. Facilities that are not fully inclusive often turn journeys into challenges, even for basic needs like boarding vehicles or changing locations. Through this programme, BSI provides more disabled-friendly fleets, including vehicles for wheelchair users and train travel alternatives. Each participant also receives an escort during the journey. BSI’s President Director, Anggoro Eko Cahyo, stated that mudik should be experienced by all segments of society without exception. “We want our disabled brothers and sisters to mudik safely and comfortably,” he said in Jakarta on Tuesday (17/3/2026). In addition to transportation, participants receive consumption packages, travel supplies, and health checks before departure. This step is taken to ensure safe journeys amid the dense mudik traffic. During the trip, participants receive escorts to assist with their needs. BSI also prepared consumption packages, travel supplies, and health checks before departure.
