Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration Clarifies Misinformation on No Need for KTP Photocopy When Checking into Hotels
The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Ditjen Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs has addressed the issue claiming that the electronic ID card (KTP-el) is not required during the hotel check-in process.
Ditjen Dukcapil Director General, Teguh Setyabudi, stated that the KTP-el is an official population identity card used for various public services and administrative needs. This includes both public services and other services requiring proof of identity.
Teguh also confirmed that the KTP-el can still be used for activities such as hotel check-ins.
“The public can continue to use the KTP-el for various purposes requiring verification or official population identity, such as hotel check-ins and other needs in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” said Teguh in a written statement on Monday (11/5).
Teguh explained that the use of KTP-el photocopies is still permissible in principle, as long as it meets service needs and is carried out responsibly.
However, this must still consider aspects of security, storage, and personal data protection as mandated by Law No. 24 of 2013 on Population Administration and Law No. 27 of 2022 on Personal Data Protection.
Teguh noted that to provide protection for the public’s personal data, Ditjen Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with various parties, will continue to innovate and strengthen systems and service mechanisms. The goal is for the use of population data and documents to be safer, more orderly, and protected.
To date, Ditjen Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs has implemented data utilisation cooperation with approximately 7,500 user institutions. This includes government agencies and Indonesian legal entities through various data access and verification methods such as card readers, web services, web portals, face recognition (FR), and Digital Population Identity (IKD).
“Ditjen Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs encourages the utilisation of electronic or digital verification and validation of population data,” said Teguh.
Furthermore, Ditjen Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs expressed apologies for the unclear communication that led to various incorrect interpretations.
“Ditjen Dukcapil of the Ministry of Home Affairs remains committed to providing the best Population Administration services to the public, through services that are fast, accurate, secure, and free of charge, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” said Teguh.
