Directorate General of Intellectual Property Accelerates IP Registration to Support Sports Industry Players
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP) of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum) of the Republic of Indonesia has assured that it will accelerate intellectual property (IP) registration services, including for players in the sports industry. “That is the directive from the Minister; all intellectual property services must be accelerated. For trademarks, which previously took years, now it takes around nine to six months, and it will continue to be sped up to two months, even one month,” said DGIP Director General Hermansyah Siregar in Jakarta on Sunday. He stated that the DGIP will establish cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) in building an IP protection ecosystem in the sports sector. “Kemenpora will have a Deputy for Sports Industry Development. We will make a cooperation agreement so that the entire IP ecosystem in the sports sector can be served proactively,” he said. “They are starting to understand the importance of registering trademarks, copyrights such as jingles, designs, to sports motifs,” he added. “Of course, athletes will gain economic benefits when products sell well. So, to ensure those products are protected, register them with us, and then we will encourage their commercialisation,” he stated. On that occasion, the DGIP of Kemenkum also held a commemoration of World Intellectual Property Day. During the event, Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas handed over several intellectual property certificates, including copyright certificates.
