Directorate General of Immigration deports US fugitive
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General (Ditjen) of Immigration, Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas), has deported a fugitive US citizen with the initials AJP.
“AJP was secured by immigration officers while passing through the autogate at Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport upon arrival from Taipei, Taiwan,” said Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko in Jakarta on Thursday.
He stated that AJP was handed over to the US Embassy and underwent deportation on Thursday under the supervision of US Marshals.
It was explained that immigration officers apprehended AJP after the airport’s autogate, integrated with Interpol 24/7, successfully detected him in accordance with Interpol’s red notice requesting law enforcement worldwide to locate and temporarily detain the wanted individual.
AJP is an international fugitive in a murder case in the United States.
He emphasised that the handling of this case is an implementation of selective policy in immigration.
“This handling demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that only foreigners who provide benefits and do not endanger public security and order may stay in Indonesia,” he said.
He also stressed the continuous strengthening of synergy with domestic law enforcement agencies and international partners, as current immigration handling requires solid cross-border collaboration.
Hendarsam added that this action is part of the execution of immigration duties and functions, particularly in supervision and enforcement, and a tangible manifestation for the people, with Indonesia’s commitment to supporting international cooperation in law enforcement and national security.
Meanwhile, Director of Immigration Supervision and Enforcement Yuldi Yusman added that the handling of this case has been carried out since the fugitive’s initial arrival in the murder case from South California, United States.
He mentioned that AJP arrived in Indonesia on 17 January 2026, immigration officers at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali then detained him and handed him over to the Directorate General of Immigration on 19 January 2026, and deportation was finally carried out on 23 April 2026.
“AJP was handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration for thorough examination and placed in a detention room for further investigation,” said Yuldi.
During the examination process, said Yuldi, the Directorate General of Immigration conducted intensive coordination with representatives of the US government to ensure technical and administrative readiness for the repatriation process.
