Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate General of Immigration has carried out 6,779 immigration administrative actions (TAK) against foreign nationals (WNA) during the period from 1 January to 5 May 2026. Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko emphasised that perceptions from certain parties regarding lax immigration oversight are inaccurate. “I need to clarify that immigration is not ‘slipping through’. On the contrary, the success of apprehending foreign nationals in various locations proves the effectiveness of the intelligence function in conducting early detection of violations by foreign nationals,” said Hendarsam in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5). He explained that of the 6,779 TAK, 2,026 involved cancellations of stay permits and deportations, 1,404 involved detentions, and 1,323 others were added to the blacklist. TAK is a non-judicial administrative sanction applied by immigration officers against foreigners who violate immigration rules in Indonesia. Furthermore, he stated that oversight of the presence and activities of foreigners will continue to be strengthened. In recent times, at least five cases of syndicates involving foreign nationals have been uncovered in various regions in Indonesia. The majority of the apprehended foreign nationals come from Vietnam and Cambodia, which are countries benefiting from visa-free facilities. “We are also maintaining good coordination with the National Police, and yesterday an operation was finally conducted to apprehend 320 foreign nationals in Hayam Wuruk (West Jakarta),” he said. Hendarsam explained that examinations at several apprehension locations of suspected foreign scammers showed that many of the suspects had not yet begun operations and some had only just started. “This shows that the Immigration surveillance system is working proactively before criminal acts occur on a wide scale,” said Hendarsam.
