Director General of Corrections Ensures Readiness of Prisons and Detention Centres Ahead of Holidays
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director General of Corrections at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Mashudi, checked the readiness of correctional institutions (lapas) and state detention houses (rutan) in the DKI Jakarta region ahead of Nyepi Day and Idul Fitri on Wednesday.
Mashudi, along with his staff, visited Class 1 Cipinang Prison, Jakarta Narcotics Prison, Cipinang Detention House, Women’s Prison, and Jakarta Women’s Detention House.
“I want to ensure the readiness of the prisons and detention centres as well as their staff in terms of services and conducive security,” said Mashudi.
According to him, services ahead of these religious holidays need to be anticipated due to the surge in visitors wanting to meet inmates, detainees, and children.
“The increase could be hundreds of percent,” he said.
For this reason, he stated, it is important for prisons and detention centres to implement visitation standard operating procedures (SOP) that can accommodate service needs while also supporting guidance and maintaining security and order.
“All our officers in the prisons and detention centres will work to the maximum for that,” he said.
Regarding Idul Fitri remission, he continued, special remission will be given on the first day of Idul Fitri. Similarly, Nyepi Day remission is given today, or one day before the celebration, to 1,506 inmates as well as special sentence reduction (PMKP) to nine trainees.
It is hoped that this remission will serve as a reward that inmates interpret as motivation to continue following guidance well, before eventually returning to live well and actively in society.
Regarding security for inmate visits during the Lebaran celebrations, Mashudi said that directives have been issued to all Regional Heads of the Directorate General of Corrections, prison wardens, and detention heads to coordinate with the police and TNI.
“This is to ensure that all services for inmates and the public can be fulfilled, and the security and order of the prisons, detention centres, and the surrounding community are well maintained,” said Mashudi.
