Danantara Investment Management (DIM) has noted a surge in both international and domestic participants in the second round of the Waste-to-Energy (WtE) Programme (PSEL), which is set to be implemented in 33 Indonesian cities, highlighting the project’s strong investment potential.

DIM Investment Director Fadli Rahman stated that the presence of participants from overseas and within Indonesia demonstrates the programme’s robust investment appeal when managed with credible governance. ‘We remain committed to ensuring the entire WtE partner selection process is transparent and competitive,’ Rahman said in a written statement on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

The second round of the Selected Supplier List (DPT) for PSEL saw 85 entities qualify, a more than 254% increase from the first round’s 24 participants. Rahman explained the project is still in its initial stages, with the DPT being a pre-qualification phase meaning companies must undergo further processes including technical evaluation, financing readiness, technology suitability, and operational capability assessments.

Participants in the second round hail from countries including Japan, South Korea, France, India, Singapore, China, and others in the region. According to Rahman, this indicates Indonesia’s waste management issues are now a focus for global energy and environmental industry players. ‘The rise in DPT participants shows Indonesia’s PSEL projects are increasingly viewed as a serious market,’ he added.

The full list of 85 qualified entities can be viewed on Danantara Indonesia’s official website. Many of the companies in the second round come from nations with extensive experience in energy-based waste management, such as Japan and South Korea, known for advanced incineration technology with strict emission standards. The inclusion of European and Chinese firms further diversifies technical capabilities and experience in urban environmental management and energy efficiency.

Danantara aims for PSEL to oversee 33 projects nationwide, with a total investment value approaching $5 billion (approximately Rp85-90 trillion).
