Digital Minister Summons Meta and Google Today After Non-Compliance with PP Tunas; TikTok and Roblox to Follow Shortly
JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hadid revealed that two business entities have failed to comply with Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic System Operators in Child Protection (PP Tunas).
“We have also noted that two business entities are not complying with the law, namely Meta, which oversees FB, IG, and Threads, and Google, which oversees YouTube,” Meutya stated in her remarks on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
Meutya explained that both digital platforms have violated applicable Indonesian law, specifically Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, a derivative of PP Tunas.
Meanwhile, platforms X and Bigo Live are two business entities that have complied with PP Tunas by raising the user age limit.
“Our monitoring over the two days since the implementation of PP Tunas and its derivative regulations shows two platforms that are compliant: platform X and Bigo Live, which have implemented compliance by raising the age for child users to 16 years and above,” she clarified.
The government has also categorised platforms that are not fully compliant but are making efforts or are cooperative.
If these two platforms subsequently fail to demonstrate full compliance, the government will adjust by issuing summons to them as well.
“We will focus on collaborating with platforms that have the intention to respect Indonesia and not just treat it as a digital market, but are committed to legislation and legal products in Indonesia for child protection,” she explained.
Meutya stated that the path chosen by the country is to delay access until children are ready to use digital platforms.
“To that end, we invite all parents and children to join in monitoring, supervising, and reprimanding platforms that refuse this compliance,” she said.
