Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Community (KOLEKSI), Arwani Hidayat, stated that the usage costs of electric vehicles differ markedly from those of conventional vehicles. “For urban consumption, EV users typically spend around Rp250 per km, and for highways around Rp350 per km for EVs with substantial power,” Arwani said when contacted by ANTARA from Jakarta on Thursday. “If using a conventional vehicle, in the city it can reach Rp1,000 per km and on highways approximately Rp1,200 per km,” he added. In addition to lower operating costs, the supporting facilities for electric vehicle use have now improved. According to information on its official website, PT PLN (Persero) along with its partners has provided 4,655 Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) in various regions. SPKLU are recorded to be available at 3,007 locations in 2025. PLN also provides Home Charging Services, which by the end of 2025 have been used by 70,250 customers. “Earlier this year, it slowed down a bit due to issues regarding the withdrawal of incentives, and in the second quarter this April, it is likely to rise, in line with issues of rising fuel prices for conventional vehicles due to the war in the Middle East,” he explained. The increase in oil prices due to the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, according to him, could encourage people to switch to electric vehicles.
