Diesel Price Hike Shakes Used Pajero Sport and Fortuner Market
JAKARTA — Diesel fuel prices continue to rise steadily. This increase is certainly affecting owners of diesel-consuming vehicles.
At Pertamina petrol stations, Dexlite now costs Rp 26,000 per litre, while Pertamina Dex stands at Rp 27,900 per litre.
Conditions at private petrol stations are even higher. At BP AKR and Vivo outlets, unsubsidised diesel has surpassed Rp 30,890 per litre.
Rama from Rama Dagang Mobil stated that the rise in prices of quality fuel directly impacts public interest in modern diesel cars.
“It’s like this: for Pajero Sport and Fortuner models from 2020 onwards, which are required to use quality fuel, the effect is real. Where does the effect go? Certainly to a shrinking market share,” Rama told Kompas.com on Tuesday (5/5/2026).
According to him, prospective buyers are now thinking twice about purchasing young units whose engines are highly sensitive if forced to use cheap diesel.
“However, in terms of price, there hasn’t been a significant drop yet; traders are still selling at the same prices,” he said.
“The difference is that currently, traders tend to hold back from taking in stock of such diesel cars for now. They want to clear the existing stock until it’s sold,” Rama added.
“If it’s a private seller, they might lower the price a bit,” said Rama.
“But that’s optional; if they really want to sell quickly, the price drops; if not, they hold on,” he concluded.
