Diesel Price Hike Begins to Pressure Used Diesel Car Prices
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The rise in the price of non-subsidised diesel fuel is beginning to affect the used car market for diesel-engined vehicles.
Used car dealers admit they must adjust selling prices due to a decline in consumer demand in recent days.
This situation is particularly felt in popular diesel models such as the Toyota Fortuner and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
Agus, owner of Focus Motor, said the drop in used diesel car prices is now quite noticeable compared to normal conditions.
“Used diesel car prices have fallen 10 to 20 percent from the usual market rates,” Agus told Kompas.com recently.
According to him, the rise in diesel prices is making consumers more cautious before buying diesel cars, even though such vehicles have long been known for their fuel efficiency on long trips.
Andi Supriadi, owner of Jordy Mobil, echoed similar sentiments. He said the used diesel car market is also affected by the fuel price changes.
“It’s definitely down,” Andi said.
According to Andi, the average price correction is around 10 percent, particularly for units with incomplete conditions or documentation compared to similar vehicles in the same class.
Meanwhile, Rama, one of the used car dealers, assessed that the selling price drop at the showroom level has not yet been drastic.
“However, in terms of price, there hasn’t been a significant decline yet; dealers are still selling at the same prices,” he said.
“The difference is that currently, dealers tend to hold back from taking in stock of such diesel cars for now. They want to sell off the existing stock until it’s gone,” Rama added.
