Dibyo, Hamami promoted
JAKARTA (JP): City Police Chief Dibyo Widodo has formally been promoted to major general while his deputy Hamami Nata is now a brigadier general.
The two officers' promotions, which were in Presidential decrees dated Feb. 1, was made official at a ceremony led by Armed Forces Commander Gen. Feisal Tanjung yesterday.
The reason for the delay in making the promotions official is unknown, though many officers said that it was purely due to Feisal's busy schedule.
Dibyo and Hamami, both 48, are former adjutants to President Soeharto.
"Thank God for the new star. But I deserve to have it for the good job that I have done," Dibyo told reporters yesterday.
He gave no further explanation but promised the new rank would not change his relationships with those around him.
Hamami, commenting on his new promotion, said: "I highly appreciate it, but there will be massive responsibilities in front of me." (bsr)
