The welcome reception was conducted by the Dharmasraya Police Chief alongside ranks of the Public Order Unit at Umega Restaurant, Jalan Lintas Sumatera Gunung Medan. The convoy arrived at approximately 14:15 Western Indonesian Time and was greeted with traditional tambur tasa performance.

“Today we welcome the homecoming convoy at the West Sumatra gateway. This demonstrates the police force’s commitment to serving the public; the police are here for the people,” stated the Police Chief at Pulau Punjung on Monday.

The Police Chief reported that 10 buses from the first batch of 100 buses had reached the West Sumatra gateway, specifically in Dharmasraya Regency. He explained that the welcome reception was conducted to ensure the smooth operation of the free homecoming programme under the banner “Pulang Basamo 2026”. His office would subsequently escort the travellers to their respective regional destinations.

“After the convoy continues its journey, we will escort them to their destinations. Some of the convoys arriving today are heading to Padang and Bukit Tinggi,” he stated.

The Dharmasraya Police Chief urged 2026 Eid holiday travellers to exercise caution during their journey, given ongoing road maintenance works. This measure was intended to support the safe homecoming campaign and the goal of bringing families together happily.

Previously, Vice-Chair of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives Andre Rosiade dispatched 250 buses from the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Sunday (8 March) for the free 2026 Eid homecoming programme under the “Pulang Basamo” banner, transporting approximately 12,000 migrants from Jakarta to various regions of West Sumatra.

He explained that the programme formed part of President Prabowo Subianto’s commitment to assisting Minangkabau migrant workers to return home and reunite with family during Eid al-Fitr. According to him, the initiative had entered its fourth year.

“This is the fourth year we have implemented this event. In the first year we provided 75 buses, the second year 200 buses, the third year 250 buses, and this year, praise be to God, we have maintained 250 buses,” Rosiade said.
