The mandate of the Special Committee on Spatial Planning, Assets and Licensing (Pansus TRAP) of the Bali Regional House of Representatives is scheduled to expire in early March 2026. However, this committee is likely to have its term extended until the end of the year.

Dewa Made Mahayadnya, Chairman of the Bali DPRD, revealed that formal discussions regarding the continuation of Pansus TRAP will be conducted during a leadership meeting of the Bali DPRD on Monday (2 March 2026). The official, commonly known as Dewa Jack, signalled the possibility of extending the committee’s mandate.

“We have a leadership meeting on Monday. We will discuss Pansus TRAP. But from what I’m sensing, it will be extended until the end of the year,” said Dewa Jack in Denpasar on Saturday (28 February 2026).

Pansus TRAP was established in mid-2025 to investigate alleged violations of spatial planning and licensing in Bali. Chaired by I Made Supartha, the committee has been actively conducting surprise field inspections, examining licensing documents and uncovering various indicators of violations.

Additionally, Pansus TRAP has formulated several recommendations for the regional government as a corrective measure regarding spatial planning issues. All findings have subsequently been submitted to the Governor of Bali for follow-up action.

Dewa Jack assessed that the committee’s work remains incomplete. In his view, the existence of Pansus TRAP becomes increasingly relevant given the entry into force of regional regulations on controlling the conversion of productive land and prohibiting nominee-based land ownership transfers.

“This committee is important to ensure those regulations operate effectively whilst maintaining that development in Bali remains in compliance with the rules,” added the PDIP politician.

The continuation of Pansus TRAP reportedly received a positive response from the legislative body. Four factions in the Bali DPRD are reported not to have raised objections to extending the committee’s working period.

Dewa Jack stressed that the existence of Pansus TRAP is not intended to hinder investment. Rather, it ensures every development project in Bali complies with legal provisions.

“We are not stopping people from investing. We actually welcome investors who contribute to building Bali. But everything must comply with regulations and obtain proper permits—that is the function of Pansus TRAP,” he concluded.
