The acid terror attack on Andrie Yunus, deputy coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), occurred over a month ago. The investigation into this case is about to enter a new phase. The Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta is scheduled to hand over the case file to the Jakarta Military Court today, Thursday, 16 April 2026.

The acid attack on Andrie Yunus took place on 12 March, when he was passing through Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta. The attack is suspected to have been carried out by personnel from the Indonesian National Armed Forces’ (TNI) Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais). As a result of the attack, the human rights activist suffered burns covering more than 20 per cent of his body and has undergone eye surgery several times.

Here are the latest developments in the investigation of the acid terror against Andrie Yunus:

Case File to Be Handed Over to the Court

The Head of Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta, Colonel Corps of Law (Chk) Andri Wijaya, stated that he received the decision letter on the handover of the case (Skeppera) as a basis for preparing the indictment on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

Accordingly, Andri said his office would proceed with the handover. “The case file will be handed over to the Jakarta Military Court 08-II tomorrow morning (today),” Andri told Tempo on Wednesday.

Four Suspects to Be Handed Over

There are four suspects whose case files will be handed over to the Jakarta Military Court. They are NDP, SL, BHW, and ES, from the air and naval branches. NDP holds the rank of captain, SL and BHW are first lieutenants, while ES is a second sergeant.

This number is significantly fewer than the findings of the Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD), Andrie’s legal team. The team suspects there were 16 field perpetrators involved in the incident. TAUD representative Alghiffari Aqsa stated that this suspicion comes from TAUD’s internal findings, which conducted an investigation based on footage from 37 surveillance cameras around the scene on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta.

“So we adjusted some CCTV footage and compared them, and it turned out these people were coordinating. It turned out these people were at the same point. It turned out these people were signalling to each other,” he said during a hearing with Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) at the DPR complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

The TNI’s Head of Information Centre (Kapuspen), Brigadier General TNI Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, has not yet responded to confirmation requests regarding the continuation of the investigation and the potential for other perpetrators beyond the four personnel already designated as suspects.

Military Court Prepares Trial Schedule

Spokesperson for the Jakarta Military Court, Lieutenant Colonel (Navy) Arin Fauzan, said that the Jakarta Military Court II-08 will soon prepare the trial schedule for the Andrie Yunus case. This case involving four Bais TNI members will be tried about one week after the case file is handed over from the Military Prosecutor.

“If it is declared complete, we will try it, from the handover approximately one week of working days,” he said when contacted on Wednesday, 15 April 2026.

Articles Charged

In this case, the Military Prosecutor 07-II Jakarta will charge the perpetrators with layered articles. The layered articles in question are Article 469 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code (KUHP) in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the KUHP. Then, Article 468 paragraph (1) KUHP in conjunction with Article 20 letter c KUHP, and Article 467 paragraph (1) in conjunction with paragraph (2) KUHP in conjunction with Article 20 letter c KUHP.

Article 468 paragraph (1) KUHP regulates the act of assault causing serious injury, with a maximum penalty of eight years’ imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Article 467 paragraphs (1) and (2) regulate premeditated assault. The penalty for this article is a maximum of four years’ imprisonment under paragraph (1), and a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment under paragraph (2) if the assault causes serious injury.

TNI Has Not Disclosed Perpetrators’ Identities

Until the case file is handed over to the court, TNI Headquarters has not shown all the attackers to the public. The TNI’s Head of Information Centre, Major General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, said his side could not yet fulfil that request. “Later (they will be shown) during the trial,” Aulia said on Monday, 13 April 2026.
