Developers have building permits: Deputy governor

JAKARTA (JP): The deputy governor responsible for development
affairs, Idroes, yesterday refuted allegations that PT Indofica
and PD Sarana Jaya housing developers have yet to secure building
permits for the construction of the Palm Estate housing complex.

"It's not true that the two companies have yet to obtain the
necessary building permits. They already have them, though not
for all the houses they are building," Idroes said shortly after
he talked to executives of the two companies at his office.

The deputy governor summoned the executives yesterday to ask
for a detailed explanation regarding the construction of the
housing complex.

He said the two developers have already obtained "preliminary
permits" which means that they can construct the houses while
the proper building permits are being processed by the municipal
administration.

Earlier it was reported that hundreds of houses in Palm Estate
built by PT Indofica Housing in Pondok Kelapa subdistrict in East
Jakarta were being built without the necessary building permits.

The housing complex is being built on a site belonging to PD
Pembangunan Sarana Jaya, a city-owned housing company that plans
to build 207 luxury houses.

Of the 207 houses, half have already been constructed on a
seven hectare plot of land.

The developers were reportedly warned repeatedly by the East
Jakarta mayor to stop the construction of the housing complex.

"It is not true. We have never received such letters
prohibiting us to continue the construction of the housing
complex," Zaidani, one of PD Sarana Jaya officials, said.

Last week, Saud Rahman, a member of the Council's Commission D
which oversees development affairs urged the city administration
to take firm action against developers building houses without
building permits.

He said the city administration should demolish such houses.

"The regulation says that the administration will demolish any
house built without a building permit. The city building and
supervision office should be consistent and demolish such
houses," Saud told reporters.

He said since the regulation was issued to control the
building of houses, it should be consistently implemented without
exception. If the city development and supervision office fail to
punish delinquent developers, only the poor will be affected by
the regulation, Saud pointed out

He stressed the city administration should punish such
developers to deter others from doing the same.

Saud said PD Pembangunan Sarana Jaya, as a city-owned company,
is expected to set a good example for other developers.(31)
