The Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) has seized numerous assets belonging to former Religious Affairs Minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas, commonly known as Gus Yaqut, over allegations of corruption relating to Indonesia’s hajj quota. The seized assets, valued at over Rp100 billion, were confiscated following Yaqut’s status as a suspect in the hajj quota corruption investigation. The KPK detained Gus Yaqut for 20 days from Thursday 12 March until 31 March 2026 in the State Detention House branch of the Red and White Building at KPK headquarters after the South Jakarta District Court rejected Gus Yaqut’s pre-trial motion on 11 March 2026.

The detention means that Gus Yaqut will very likely celebrate Eid al-Fitr 2026 whilst in custody. “In this case, the KPK conducted asset seizures with a total value reaching over Rp100 billion,” stated Asep Guntur Rahayu, Deputy for Enforcement and Execution at the KPK, at the Red and White Building in Jakarta on Thursday (12/3/2026).

Asep stated that the seized assets totalling this amount consist of USD 3.7 million in cash, Rp22 billion, 16,000 Saudi Arabian riyals, four motor vehicles, and five plots of land and buildings. Previously, on 9 August 2025, the KPK announced the start of investigations into the alleged corruption case concerning Indonesia’s hajj quota for 2023-2024.

On 11 August 2025, the KPK announced an initial calculation of state losses in the case reaching over Rp1 trillion, and prevented three individuals from travelling abroad for the following six months. Those whose travel was restricted were Yaqut, Ishfah Abidal Aziz (IAA) alias Gus Alex serving as Yaqut’s staff member, and Fuad Hasan Masyhur as owner of the Maktour hajj travel operator.

On 9 January 2026, the KPK announced that two of the three individuals whose travel had been restricted became suspects in the hajj quota corruption case, namely Yaqut and Gus Alex. However, Yaqut filed a pre-trial motion regarding his designation as a suspect with the South Jakarta District Court on 10 February 2026, registered under case number 19/Pid.Pra/2026/PN JKT.SEL.

On 19 February 2026, the KPK announced an extension of the travel ban for only Yaqut and Gus Alex. Fuad’s ban was not extended.

On 27 February 2026, the KPK announced it had received an audit from the State Finance Audit Board (BPK) concerning state financial losses from the hajj quota case. Subsequently, on 4 March 2026, the KPK announced that state financial losses from the case amounted to Rp622 billion.
