Despite Officially Becoming Almeria's Boss, Ronaldo is Barred from Playing in Spain
Cristiano Ronaldo has officially purchased 25% of UD Almeria, a second-tier club in the Spanish League. The transaction was carried out through his company, CR7 Sports Investment.
This move adds to Ronaldo’s list of business ventures outside of the pitch. At 41 years old, the captain of the Portuguese national team is now directly involved in owning a football club.
With a net worth of around 900 million pounds, Ronaldo has the financial backing to participate in the team’s development.
“It has long been my ambition to contribute to football, not just on the pitch,” Ronaldo wrote on his social media account.
“UD Almeria is a Spanish club with a strong foundation and clear growth potential. I look forward to working with the management team to support the club’s next phase of growth,” he added.
The regulations of the Spanish Sports Council and the Spanish Football Federation prohibit active players from having business ties with clubs in domestic competitions.
These regulations are in place to prevent conflicts of interest. As long as he remains a professional player, Ronaldo is not allowed to play in LaLiga.
He is currently still under contract with Al Nassr until 2027.
However, the Saudi Arabian League title has yet to be won. In the 2025-2026 season, Al Nassr leads the standings with 58 points from 23 matches.
They are two points ahead of Al Ahli. Meanwhile, defending champions Al Ittihad have 39 points.
This situation still gives Ronaldo the opportunity to pursue his first domestic league title in Saudi Arabia.
