Despite lack of concrete steps, Iranian Ambassador appreciates Indonesia's mediation intentions
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia Mohammad Boroujerdi has expressed appreciation for the Indonesian Government’s good intentions to mediate between Iran and the United States, even though to date there have been no concrete steps related to this matter.
He stated this when asked whether any party had contacted the Iranian Embassy regarding the mediation during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.
“To date, there have been no steps related to this matter and we still do not know whether such steps can have an impact or effect,” said Ambassador Boroujerdi.
According to him, the governments of both countries can conduct communication and interaction with Iran, but he could not answer whether mediation could be carried out or not.
“If Iran and Indonesia wish to conduct further interaction and communication to understand the latest updates and situation in Iran, then this may be possible. However, whether mediation can achieve results or not, I cannot comment,” said the Iranian Ambassador.
On Saturday (28 February), Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Indonesia is prepared to facilitate dialogue so that security conditions and conducive circumstances can be restored.
“Should both parties agree, the President of Indonesia is willing to travel to Tehran to conduct mediation,” according to the statement.
On Saturday (28 February), Israel launched an attack against Iran, marking the second attack by Israel and the United States after the first strike on Iran in June 2025.
United States President Donald Trump stated that American forces launched a major military operation in Iran to protect its people by eliminating threats which he claimed stemmed from Iran’s alleged development of nuclear weapons.
Iran’s Red Crescent, on Monday (2 March), stated that the death toll from air strikes by the United States and Israel since 28 February has increased to 555 people.
In a statement cited by the Fars News Agency, it was noted that the combined strikes targeted 131 residential areas throughout Iran. The statement confirmed 555 deaths, but did not detail the number of wounded.
