Jakarta, VIVA – Hafiz Mahendra’s reckless actions in the Gunung Sahari area, Central Jakarta, have had serious consequences. After going viral and being apprehended by the police, he is now officially a traffic offender facing severe criminal charges.

The Jakarta Metro Police has charged Hafiz with Article 311 Paragraph 1, 2, and 3 of the Traffic and Road Transportation Law. This was revealed by the Director of Traffic at the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Komarudin.

“Under Article 311 Paragraph 1, 2, and 3, he faces a potential prison sentence of up to four years and a fine of 8 million rupiah,” he said on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

The results of the examination and urine test showed that Hafiz was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol. However, the problems did not end there. The police found that the vehicle he was driving had a Vehicle Registration Number (TNKB) that did not match its intended use.

Komarudin explained that before the incident, officers had detected irregularities when the car was driving at high speed.

“There was a driver who was driving a vehicle improperly, at high speed, and it was known or suspected that the TNKB used was also not in accordance with its intended use. Officers followed the vehicle and it made a turn at MBAL, then turned and entered Jl. Gunung Sahari 4,” he said.

During the examination, Hafiz admitted that he had just arrived in Jakarta and was heading to Ancol with a woman who was also in the car. However, his driving style endangered other road users.

The situation escalated when the vehicle entered Jalan Gunung Sahari 5, which is a one-way street. Instead of stopping, Hafiz drove against the flow of traffic at high speed.

“Upon arriving at the MBAL intersection, the offender entered the right lane on the Budi Utomo road. As we know, Budi Utomo has two lanes, from MBAL to the Post Office, and also from the Post Office to MBAL,” he said.

Officers signaled to warn other drivers to be careful. However, the offender turned around again after realizing he was driving against the flow of traffic, then turned towards Gunung Sahari or Pintu Besi and turned around again on the same lane.

“He turned around again on the same lane, and that’s where the incident occurred, resulting in injuries to victims and damage to several vehicles,” said Komarudin.
