Jakarta — Indonesia’s Deputy Trade Minister Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri conducted a direct inspection of strategic food commodity prices and supplies at Mayestik Market in South Jakarta on Tuesday to ensure price stability ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH.

“This morning, as we approach Eid, several days before the festival, we continue to monitor prices of basic commodities in the field. I am working with the Trade Minister (Budi Santoso), dividing our efforts across several regions. Today I happen to be at Mayestik Market,” said Dyah Roro in Jakarta.

During the inspection, the Deputy Minister was accompanied by I Gusti Ketut Astawa, Deputy for Food Availability and Stabilisation at the National Food Agency (Bapanas), and Elisabeth Ratu Rante Allo, Head of the Industrial, Trade, Cooperative, Small and Medium Enterprise Office of DKI Jakarta Province.

She reported finding chicken eggs selling at approximately Rp32,000 per kilogram (kg), slightly above the reference selling price (HAP) of Rp30,000 per kg, having previously ranged from Rp30,000 to Rp31,000 per kg. Traders indicated that eggs were supplied from Central and East Java, including Solo and Blitar.

For chilli, curly red chilli was found reaching Rp80,000 per kg, whilst red bird’s eye chilli touched Rp120,000 per kg, far exceeding the reference price range of Rp40,000 to Rp57,000. However, price differences were noted among traders, with chilli selling at lower prices between Rp37,000 and Rp55,000 per kg at other stalls, indicating price disparity within the market.

Beef prices ranged around Rp140,000 per kg for standard quality, whilst premium quality sold between Rp150,000 and Rp160,000 per kg.

Cooking oil of the MinyaKita brand was priced at approximately Rp15,700 per litre, consistent with the government-mandated maximum retail price (HET) and remained stable at trader levels.

The Deputy Minister stressed that the Trade Ministry plays a role in overseeing cooking oil prices through stock and distribution management, ensuring price stability at consumer level.

The government has also implemented new regulations through Trade Ministry regulations requiring that at least 35 per cent of strategic food commodity distribution for MinyaKita originates from state-owned enterprises such as Bulog and ID Food. This policy aims to strengthen distribution oversight whilst ensuring strategic food supplies can be monitored more intensively by the government to prevent unreasonable price increases.

The Trade Ministry also relies on the Market and Basic Commodity Needs Monitoring System (SP2KP) to track prices daily across 514 districts and municipalities as a basis for price control policy decisions.

The Deputy Minister assured that national food stocks remain secure through and beyond Eid, with the government continuing to monitor distribution and prices to maintain stability and protect purchasing power.

Monitoring is conducted jointly with the DKI Jakarta provincial government and the National Food Agency as cross-sector coordination to preserve strategic food supply and price stability.

“This is approaching a major holiday, so naturally demand will increase, and we know this has implications for prices and stock levels, and so on. That is what we are monitoring together,” said Dyah Roro.

According to her, the government divides monitoring tasks across various regions to ensure price and basic commodity distribution oversight is conducted evenly and continuously ahead of the major religious holiday.

“We have a Food Task Force as well, so cross-sector cooperation to ensure everything is secure, including in the regions. We have entrusted responsibility to the regions, asking them to continue monitoring and keep us informed so we can act swiftly when there are significant price increases,” she said.
