Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Stella Christie emphasised that Indonesian alumni who pursued education in the United States have a responsibility to bring the benefits of their knowledge to the nation.

The statement was delivered by Stella at the Alumni United States of America event in Jakarta on Saturday (11/4). She stressed that opportunities to study abroad must be followed by tangible contributions, both at home and abroad.

“You have a responsibility for the opportunities you have gained in the United States - bring back the benefits for this country and nation, wherever you are, whether here or in other countries,” she said.

In addition, Stella assessed that the alumni also play an important role in disseminating the values of liberal education and inclusivity to the wider community.

“The pursuit of knowledge can be done by anyone and should be done by everyone for the good of humanity,” she stated.

She also expressed appreciation for the contributions of the alumni who have brought knowledge, experience, and positive values for the advancement of society and the nation.

“Thank you for all the hard work you have done,” she said.

According to Stella, the Indonesia-US partnership, particularly in education, continues to benefit both countries. She appreciated the opportunities provided to Indonesian talent to study in that country.

“Of course, we are very grateful for the opportunities given by the United States to the best and brightest talents from around the world, including from Indonesia,” she said.

Furthermore, she affirmed that the Indonesian Government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto is committed to strengthening international education cooperation.

One of the efforts is through the flagship Government High School programme under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek).

“To support that, we are partnering with embassies and alumni to create more opportunities in bringing back the best talents,” she said.

The Alumni United States of America event was attended by more than 600 alumni of US universities as well as participants in government and military-funded exchange programmes. The event was also part of the celebration of the 250th anniversary of US independence.
