During the visit on Thursday, he observed the climate village, which he described as clean, orderly, and green, with ornamental and medicinal plants neatly arranged along roads, residential areas, and village corners.

He reviewed organic waste management using maggots and its processed products, and observed residents producing laundry soap from used cooking oil.

On the sidelines, Sugiarto talked with residents while enjoying traditional food and beverages prepared by the local community.

“What interested me was the production of laundry soap from used cooking oil. This is a good innovation, oil waste can now be utilized for cleaning,” he said.

He stated that the climate village in Cacaban is among the best examples of environmentally friendly and sustainable residential area management.

He noted that the achievement was supported by strong community culture and the active role of local government and neighborhood administrators.

“The mayor’s direct involvement in monitoring, providing encouragement and motivation, as well as the system established by RW (community unit) and RT (neighborhood) administrators, are key factors,” he said.

He added that the environmental management in the area has been implemented comprehensively, including recycling, waste banks, composting, maggot utilization, and soap production from used cooking oil.

Moreover, Sugiarto also greeted students at the Nonformal Education Unit Sanggar Kegiatan Belajar (SKB-SPNF), which accommodates out-of-school children, dropouts, and people with disabilities facing economic barriers.

He expressed hope the climate village can serve as a replicable model across Magelang City.

Closing the visit, he tried the Angkutan Jempol free student transport service, noting its dual benefits for students and drivers.
