Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (Wamen P2MI) Christina Aryani has encouraged strengthening the role of the Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes) under the Ministry of Health in Aceh as a base for developing health personnel ready to compete in the global job market.

This encouragement was expressed by Christina after visiting Poltekkes Kemenkes Aceh in Banda Aceh on Thursday (9/4), as per an official statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

“This is a strategic step because students are not only equipped with technical competencies but also foreign language skills such as English and Japanese,” said Christina.

She appreciated the existence of international classes at Poltekkes Aceh, both in the nursing and midwifery study programmes, as part of efforts to improve the quality of graduates.

According to Christina, mastery of languages is one of the key factors in enhancing the competitiveness of Indonesian health workers to work abroad professionally and in accordance with procedures.

In addition to strengthening language skills, the government is also promoting the formation of an ecosystem for placing health personnel through the presence of a Migrant Center within the Poltekkes environment.

“This aligns with the cooperation between the Ministry of P2MI and the Ministry of Health; Poltekkes Aceh will become one of the points for developing the Migrant Center. This is important to facilitate access to information on overseas job opportunities, requirements, and competency readiness,” she stated.

She explained that the presence of the Migrant Center will strengthen the role of educational institutions as part of the ecosystem for preparing Indonesian migrant workers, particularly in the health sector.

To date, Poltekkes Aceh has produced graduates who work in various countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Germany, and the Taiwan region.

“We will continue to encourage collaboration with the education sector to ensure that Indonesian health workers have competencies that meet global market needs,” said Christina Aryani.
